The Power of Chōwa wins D&AD Award

Akemi’s book The Power of Chōwa continues to do amazing things.

Recently, a concept design for the book was entered in the prestigious D&AD awards (design and art direction awards) and won in the specialist books cover design category.

Designer Jonathan Harper had adapted the book to craft a striking visual variation. A small diagonal cut was made, visually throwing the squared cover off balance. However, this small imperfection gave the book just enough surface area to stand up and be perfectly balanced at an eye-catching 45-degree angle, with the cover art working in harmony to compliment it.

D&AD is recognised as one of the hardest awards to win in the creative industry globally. As only ten books this year got awarded, it makes this award all the more special.
