Commemorating Ten Years…

On 11th March, Aid For Japan will be hosting a Japanese online cultural fair to mark the ten year anniversary of the charity. We also wish to commemorate ten years passing since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

The Aid For Japan online cultural fair is free and will be happening throughout the day on Thursday 11th March 2021 (GMT 09:00-21:00) through Aid For Japan’s website, Twitter and Facebook pages.

With many of us having to stay indoors, we wanted to use this opportunity to showcase aspects of Japanese culture, tradition and history with the aim of bringing people together in a free and friendly online environment.

At the same time we are running a one thousand cranes project – in Japan one thousand cranes symbolise hope and healing – where we’re asking people to fold an origami crane and post a photo of it online using the hashtag #1000Cranes. We wish to gather one thousand photos of paper cranes and to unveil a collage artwork at the festival.

The online cultural fair will feature:
  • Origami crane making workshop
  • Japanese themed cooking tutorial
  • Introduction to Hina dolls of Japanese Girls’ Day
  • Commemorative videos of the disaster
  • Highlights from the book Power of Chowa: Finding Your Balance Using the Japanese Wisdom of Chowa
  • Q&A with founder of the charity Akemi Tanaka
  • Photos, videos and memories from ten years of the charity

… and more!
